Continuum Shaders for Minecraft 1.11.2/1.10.2/1.9.4/1.7.10

The Continuum Shaders for Minecraft 1.11.2 is aptly named, since it is an unofficial continuum of the SEUS shaderpack authored by Cody Darr. With exclusive permission from the original author to create this heavily modded version, dotModded is the only person in the world with a legitimate claim to use that original work in making his own creation, which is the Continuum Shaderpack. You don’t need the original SEUS pack to make this one work though – it’s a standalone shader that doesn’t require any other software or add-ons to function. However, that doesn’t mean that just anyone can use this mod.

Because the Continuum Shaderpack is based on the original SEUS pack, players who have used the latter will see some similarities in this, the former. With realistic clouds, a gradient of color and light across the sky and realistic shadows that move along with the sun, most of the lighting effects here are top notch. However, there is just one little problem, which isn’t really a problem at all. To get full function from the Continuum Shaderpack, you’ll need to have the Shaders Mod installed and working on your PC beforehand. This mod, by karyonix, is an integral part that makes many high-end shaders work.

Getting to the requirements, this is not one of those Lite shader mods that will sort of work with integrated graphics. Unless you’re using a GPU, and a decent one at that, you should probably steer clear of the Continuum Shaderpack. Even a 980TI only got a middling 30-40 FPS when running Minecraft at 1080p resolution on the maximum graphics settings with this shader pack installed. Weaker graphics cards produce less impressive results. Thankfully there is a Lite version of Continuum Shaderpack that allows those with weaker PCs to enjoy the fine lighting and shadow effects found here.

Since the Continuum Shaders for Minecraft won’t even work with cards at or below the 500 series mark, even players with mid-level PCs may run into some issues when trying to use it. It’s a shame when something that looks so good is also so difficult to access, but that’s the price to pay for getting great lighting and shading effects in Minecraft. Better graphics tend to demand more resources, and this pack definitely does that. If you’ve got the rig to support it, this pack is definitely recommended. If you don’t though, you’d be better off looking for some lighter shader packs that aren’t so demanding.
